Jan 3 R. Harmath Foothill HS 26 16 Held serve to start match, which was my high point, including an ace to win the game 3 aces total. One wide to the deuce court, and then one each inside and outside on the ad court. Opponent very solid with groundstrokes and net play. I had a chance to win a couple more games but didn't win the important points. Opponent returned my deuce court serves up the line where I was not covering. I can either go wider, hit more spin, or aim to the backhand. My groundstrokes were not up to par. Rushing the net did not work after initial success. He lobbed or passed me most of the time, or I mis-hit the volley. Fitness felt good. Overall - Serving 7, Forehand 5.5, backhand 4.5. Next match will try to stay in points longer. Also need to rush the net after good topspin forehands.

Jan 2 P. Ngo Great Park L 16 57 Played fast and loose at beginning, and went down 0-4 quickly. Eventually lost first set 16. Second set hit more two handed backhands, and started doing drop shots and half forehands on each side to get him running. Lobbed him when the drop shot worked. Couldn't hit the passing shots when needed, especially crosscourt backhand. At 45 he held and then started hitting great shots. Overall - Serve 7, forehand 6, backhand 5. For next match will mix in more variety earlier. Used the wide serve with spin. Need to bring it into the body more.
